Social Media 101 – Set up an Instagram Business Profile

Last time on Social Media 101 we talked about how to create a Facebook business page. Now I will be walking you through the process of making an Instagram Business Profile.

Instagram is a photo & video sharing platform that was acquired by FB in 2012. In the time since the achievement the platform has seen massive growth, reaching over 700 million users in 2016. They’ve added a number of features recently that make the platform even more valuable for engaging & marketing to users including EverLesson, Instagram Stories, Live Video and shoppable posts. The first step in getting began on your Instagram plan is to create a Business Profile for your brand. By doing this you unlock a number of elements, analytics being a major one, which will let you to better gauge the success of your Instagram efforts. The process of making a business profile is an easy one but it does require that you make an Instagram account for your brand & that you already have a FB Business Page.

To begin, make an Instagram account by launching the app on your mobile device. You should have a username that aligns with the brand you’re looking to promote. Once logged in, tapping the button in the bottom right corner of your screen.

From here, choose the gear in the top right corner. This could bring you to the account settings menu.

Next, scroll down & select “Switch to Business Profile”

Instagram will walk you through a couple of the advantages of a business profile including analytics & additional contact options. Select continue.

Now it is time to connect your Instagram account to a FB Business page. If you have not created one yet, go take a look at my previous Social Media 101 post for how to make one. Log in to your FB account using either the FB app or the FB website.

Once you are signed in select the Business Page you want this account connected to.

It is time to choose the contact methods that you want to make public on your profile. Your options are email, phone and a mailing address. You have to select at least one & can do all three if you like. When you are finished tap done & your business profile is ready to go.

When you go to your profile you can see a button that looks like a graph in the top right corner. Here you enter the Instagram Insights menu where you could examine analytics for your Instagram account.

There you have it. Now you own an Instagram Business Profile ready to go.
